The world’s cheapest car was unveiled today in India. The “Tata Nano” sells for approximately $2497 in US dollars. It’s not one of the SUV’s that the US automakers are attempting to shove down our throats. Granted they now have “crossovers”, but those are a SUV by a different name and from what I can see, the best MPG on one of these is 27.We in the US don’t have to worry because from what I have seen on the web, we won’t get it here for 2-3 years.
Sure it only has a 65 HP engine and a top speed is 65 MPH, but it gets 55 MPG and would be great for running errands around town. Some say “this is going to put too many cars on the road and it will cause more pollution.” I say “Replace every SUV with a Tata and we would not only have cleaner air, but we would probably cause gasoline prices to be much lower.” The US automakers and Oil companies probably would not like the Tata coming to the US, but based on our economy these days I don’t think they can do anything about it.
I attempted to find out where in the US a Tata can be bought, but did not find anything. I will continue to look because “I want one!”
I wonder what you would find if you looked in the future auto design room at GM and others? I am guessing, “nothing”.
