So You Think You Can Dance Week #5 Results

Cut from the top 12 tonight was Phillip and Caitlin. The judges were unanimous on both selections. The judges told both dancers that they were great dancers and they based their decision on last night and all the previous week performances.

As I say to all the departing contestants, “To Phillip and Caitlin I send my congratulations for making the Top 12 and even though you are leaving tonight, “Let nothing stand in your way as you continue your journey to complete your dream”.

This now completes the top 10 that will be going on the SYTYCD Tour starting in September. Congratulations to all the top 10 contestants for following your dream and taking the action to complete it. Nigel also announced that Phillip and Caitlin will also be joining the top 10 on the tour, which was a surprise because in pasted seasons only the top 10 went on tour as the main attractions. Other dancers went on tour only as “swing” dancers, not main attractions.

I must say that when Phillip was asked how this competition has affected him he said among other things, “I hope I have inspired others to follow their dreams. I want them to know that you don’t need money and fancy studios, all you need are creativity and passion to complete your dreams.” (Not his exact words, but I got the message.)

Other notes about tonight’s show:

Nigel said that when they attempted to put together a show that would be a tribute to Michael Jackson they could not get a release of the music from Sony so there will be no tribute.
My editorial response to this is -- Outrageous! Disgusting! I am appalled! If you are a fan of one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived and agree with me on this absurdity of not releasing the music to SYTYCD for a tribute, what I am going to do is post a blog tomorrow with the subject “SYTYCD Tribute to Michael Jackson Rejected”. In the body of the post will be the above description about the music not being release. All comments on this post will be approved and posted for all to see (Please keep it G Rated). So call your friends, use “Google”, “Bing”, Firefox”, etc. to get information on he we can get this decision reversed and post it as a comment or just comment, the on what you think. Your opinions are valued here.

I have Nothing except for all you out there to remember the name “SONY”!. Grrrrrrrr...

Michael Jackson Memorial

It sure has been an amazing day when it comes to remembering Michael Jackson.

One of the reporters commented that the family said about the memorial service that was to be broadcast on TV, “We don’t want a TV Show, we want a memorial.” In my opinion that is exactly what transpired.

Once again Michael brought the world together in a moment in time as he did time and time again through his music. Today the world not only mourned the passing of Michael Jackson, they also celebrated his accomplishments. There was laughter, tears, and many insights as to what was important to him personally.

The interviews of celebrities, fans and TV “specials” went on throughout the day. All seemed to me that the thread of everything said was his influence was overall positive. I think his music absolutely pointed in that direction and his accomplishments through his foundation and numerous other ventures also changed the world and “Made it a better place for you and for me.”

The “media blitz” will probably continue for weeks to come, but today the world came together for the celebration and the memories of one special person, who in many ways was just like you and I. We all have our own special talents and even though some of us aren’t super stars, “We are the world” and we can change the world working as one toward a common goal.

My message for Michael comes from the theme of Bob Hope’s TV show, “Thanks for the memories….”

Finally I think the one song that describes the message that Michael wanted to world to understand is “You are not alone.”

So You Think You Can Dance Week #3 Results

Cut from the top 16 tonight was Jonathon and Asuka. The judges were unanimous on Asuka, but spilt on Jonathon. I agree on Jonathon, I thought he did not “dance for his life”, and I had the other two guys even up. As far as the girls, I had to leave that up to the judges. The reason they gave for “cutting” Asuka is they did not feel she was growing as a dancer on the show.

As I say to all the departing contestants, “To Jonathon and Asuka I send my congratulations for making the Top 16 and even though you are leaving tonight, “Let nothing stand in your way as you continue your journey to complete your dream”.

Final Note:
As everyone probably knows by now that Michael Jackson passed away at the young age of fifty today. I have been a fan of his for forty plus years and as far as music goes Nigel said it best tonight, “He changed the world of music forever. Not just here in the U.S., the world.”

I agree 1,000%. When “Thriller” came out and I saw it, I knew this was the future and it did change everything about music. Not only song, but dance, video, production, and well you can go on and on. Nigel also said, “I hear contestants on this show and others stating that they were inspired by Michael Jackson to follow their dreams.” That in itself is awesome and his life should be a celebration. We will miss the likes of Michael Jackson yet celebrate his contribution to the world of music forever.
