American Idol Season 9 – Top 3 Performance Week

The Judges tonight were Simon, Kara, Randy, and Ellen.

The contestants will sing two songs, one chosen by the contestant and one chosen by a judge.

Here are the top 3 contestants in order of performance:

Songs chosen by the contestants…

1] Casey James – Song: “Okay it’s alright with me.”

So-so choice (We never have heard this song before tonight), but the arrangement was up beat and the vocals were very good, not great, but we enjoyed the performance. We have to agree with all the judges, it was only “alright” especially because this is probably one of the most important nights in Casey’s career.

2] Crystal Bowesox – Song: “Come to my window“

An interesting choice we must say. As usual we really liked her vocals, but overall, we did not like the arrangement. We agree with Randy, her vocals made it a great song. Even more important we agree with Simon when he said, “The one thing about you is from day one you never have compromised your style and you consistently pick songs that suit your style.”

3] Lee Dewyze – Song: “Simple Man”

Now this was a great song choice and Lee had a great performance. The vocals were spot on with a great arrangement. We think this was the best performance so far tonight. The performance rates right up there with his best performance ever. Great job!

Songs chosen by a judge…

4] Casey James – Song: “Daughters” (Chosen by Randy and Kara)

This performance was better than his first song, but it was not great. We thought it was a little “sleepy” and did not find any sort of connection. Not memorable at all.

5] Crystal Bowesox – Song: “Baby I am amazed” (Chosen by Ellen)

All we can say is “Wow!” Once again we were amazed by Crystal’s vocals. The vocals we absolutely great and even though we were concerned on this song choice, it is opinion that it was her best performance this season. Excellent song choice by Ellen!

6] Lee Dewyze – Song: “Halleluiah” (Chosen by Simon)

Another “wow” for Lee! This song has been done before on Idle, but we think Lee did the best version ever done on American Idle. Simon sent a challenge and Lee answered with a great “moment” and great performance. Lee showed what this show is all about. Just think about it, Lee was selling paint before American Idol and he decided to follow a DREAM…sweet!

We have nothing else to report except that to remind you that tomorrow night is the results show.. Pick up the phone and vote for your favorite are they may go home tomorrow night

So You Think You Can Dance – Los Angels – Choosing the Top 20

Tonight’s judges were Nigel, Mary, TY, Adam, Debbie, and Mia.

This show was one ball of emotion for all the contestants, whether they were picked or cut from the top 20. I was happy to see that the judges urged all the dancers that were cut to continue to grow and return next year to try again. This is a good case because several of the dancers that were picked this year had tried out for other seasons and were cut only to return and make it this year. The same applies to other previous seasons.

Here are some of tonight’s highlights:

1] The show opened with Nathan being accepted into the top 20.

2] Kathryn from LA
She said she decided to let go of her limitations in Vegas and open her arms to the experience. She said her family was very proud and she felt blessed by the entire experience. She was accepted into the top 20.

3] Channing
The judges said she was such a strong dancer that she needed to work more on he partner skills. She was accepted into the top 20.

4] Ariana was accepted into the top 20.

5] Elenora was accepted into the top 20

6] Billy
The judges said he had great technique and Billy said he is happy to have come so far.
He was accepted into the top 20.

7] Russell (Crumper)
Mia said that she was blown away at his “Crumping” and that the only concern with the judges was whether he could do other styles. They said he did exactly that during Vegas week and he was accepted into the Top 20. He is the 1st “Crumper” style dancer to make it to the Top 20 and I could see that he was very proud of himself for getting this far

8] Kevin was accepted into the Top 20.

9] Bianca (Tap Dancer)
This was Bianca’s second try for the Top 20 and she was accepted into the Top 20

10] Phillip (Tap Dancer)
The judges felt that Phillip needed to calm down and accept criticism. He needs to open up to new ideas and direction. He was accepted into the top 20.

Wow! Two Tap Dancers have made it this year so far. There was one more left.

11] Peter (Tap Dancer)
Peter seemed a little apprehensive before he went before the judges because two Tap dancers had been accepted. The judges discussed how he had been on the edge of being cut during Vegas week and there was one instance when the judges split their decision. He was accepted into the top 20 and said he felt like he was “walking on air.”
Double “Wow!” Three Tap dancers made it into the Top 20 this year.

12] Victor
Ty said he was a big fan of Victor and that he was a strong dancer. Also noted was at the beginning of Vega week it was pointed out by the judges that his hair was a distraction. Victor then proceeded to cut it off and then had a “buzz”. He was accepted into the top 20.

13] Jacob was accepted into the top 20.

14] Molly
The judges said she danced like a 13-14 year old and she needed to mature. She was accepted into the top 20.

15] Pauline
Pauline was injured at the end of Vegas week and could not complete her final solo. This was discussed by the judges and then she was accepted into the top 20.

16] Noel
Noel was another returning dancer that was cut last season. She said she really wanted this to happen. She was accepted into the top 20.

17] Paula
Paula was also another returning dancer that had previously been cut. The judges said that she was fantastic and a very special dancer. She was accepted into the top 20.

18] Legacy
The judges said that any other year he would have breezed right through to the top 20 but this year they had so many good “Hip Hop” dancers they had to look and compare them all. He was accepted into the top 20.

Now it was down to two places left open. One for the girls and one for the guys and the guys went first.

Gene and Ryan (Who is married to Ashleigh)
Ryan was accepted into the top 20.

Next were the two girls Karen and Ashleigh.
Karen was accepted into the top 20.

They cut to the waiting room and when Ryan saw Karen come in and say she made the Top 20 he assumed that his wife Ashleigh did not make it. He became very emotional as he waited for her. Ashleigh then came in and said she had also been accepted. It seems that earlier when Paula was accepted into the Top 20 she had to decline because she had landed a part in a movie.

Final notes:
To the dancers that were “cut” this year I say. “Let nothing stand in your way as you continue your journey to complete your dream”.

Also as soon as the Top 20 pictures become available I will be posting them here.

I have nothing else to report tonight except don’t forget the “Dizzy Feet Foundation” for kids. Click here for more information.

So You Think You Can Dance Fall Season 6 – Auditions Salt Lake City UT

This was the sixth show for Season 6, which this year is running through the Fall Season considered prime time. Tonight is the last audition night and “Vegas Week” starts tomorrow night.

Tonight’s judges were Nigel, Mary and Mia.

Contestants in order of performance: (Not all the contestants that were awarded a “trip to Vegas” performed on this show.)

1] Bryan (Style -- “B-Boy”)
Nigel said, “Strong moves and that was one of the best Hip-Hop auditions tis season.” Mary said, “Great stuff and great spirit.” Mia said, “Awesome job, one of the strongest Hip-Hop routines.” I thought “Whoa! Great moves!” I liked it.
He was sent to choreography but left because he did not have any experience on other styles. He did try, but left and said he would be back next year when he gets training in other styles. ( hope he does return because he had some awesome hip-hop moves and looked to be an “original”.

2] Tristy (She was the passenger in 25 car accidents in three years)
Nigel asked, “Do you have any training?” She said, “Yes, three years.” Nigel looked surprised and said, “Someone is taking your money.” I also thought it was a weak routine and not structured.
The judge’s decision was a “NO”.

3] Hayley
Nigel said, “I like your attitude.” Mary said, “Wow! String, powerful and confident.” Mia said, “Awesome job.” I thought it was good. I like her moves and the routine was very good.
The judge’s decision was a “YES”.

Then there were five quick previews of dancers that all were sent to “Vegas Week”.

4] Ariana (Style – Burlesque)
Nigel said with a big smile on his face, “Fantastic!” Mary asked, “Did you think we wanted to see a strip-tease?” She said “Yes, why not?” Mia said, “Not much dancing.”
She was sent to choreography and at the end of the night the judge’s decision was “NO”.

5] Iveta She is from Lithuania and she danced ballroom with a partner.
Nigel said, “You are vivacious and danced brilliantly. That was a very special audition.” Mary said, “Wow, you are exquisite.” Mary then got “misty” because she was very impressed by the routine. Mia said, “You have over whelming talent. It was a privilege to watch.” I thought it was a fantastic audition. I thought it was the “BEST” Ballroom audition this season and one of the “BEST” auditions ever,
The judge’s decision was a “YES”. (No doubt here)

This ended day one and it was announced that 13 dancers were put through to “Vegas” from choreography.

6] Pascal (in the promo he said he becomes what ever song he is dancing)
Nigel said, “There was no dancing in that routine.” I thought it was a strange routine. There were not any dance moves and he just flopped around and shook.
The judge’s decision was a “NO”.

7] Ashley and Ryan (Married pair)
Nigel said, “Ryan was very good. Ashley was not real.” Mary said, “I loved the routine and Ryan was great. Ashely was a little fake.” Mia said, “Something was missing Ashley. Ryan did a vey good job. I thought it was agood routine, but oddly enough, I think the chemistry was missing.
They were both sent to choreography and at the end of the night the judge’s decision was “YES” on both dancers.

8] Leigh and Josh (This couple has only been together for two weeks)
Nigel said, “Good job both of you.” Mary and Mia agreed with Nigel. I though it was good.
Just then Leigh noticed she lost a toe nail and her toe began bleeding. Nigel called for a medic. When the medic was done Leigh received a judges decision of “YES”. Josh was sent to choreography and at the end of the night the judge’s decision was “NO”.

This ended tonight show and it was announced that 19 other dancers moved on to “Vegas” after their choreography session.

Tonight’s show notes:
Once again I liked the way the show was presented tonight. They did not show any embarrassing routines and then only the contestants that were going to Vegas were quickly shown. I think this made the show 100% more interesting than last years audition shows.

I have nothing else to report tonight except don’t forget the “Dizzy Feet Foundation” for kids. Click here for more information.

Tomorrow nights show starts the auditions “Vegas Week” when then the top twenty is chosen for the remainder of the season. The “promo’s” looked great. I am definitely excited. Mia made a comment in the promotional Vegas Week video, “This is going to blow season five away!”

Tonight’s show notes:
Once again I liked the way the show was presented tonight. The embarrassing routines were held to just a few and the contestants sent to choreography were saved to last few minutes and then only the contestants that were going to Vegas were quickly shown. I have nothing else to report tonight except don’t forget the “Dizzy Feet Foundation” for kids. Click here for more information.

How to get on a Reality Show

I have been watching reality shows for quit a few years. The main shows I watch are “Ice Road Truckers”, “Deadliest Catch”, “Extreme Loggers”, and just recently, “Swords”. The one thing all the characters on these shows have in common is “They ALL whine.” They take “whining” to the highest level and the best of the best on these shows is the commentator. When the characters begin to taper off on whining the commentator jumps in and starts projecting on everything that can go wrong will go wrong. As the show progresses the commentator points out what one of the characters is doing while you watch and tells you what that person is doing wrong or “might” be doing wrong.

There is some general whining that covers all of the shows. Like for example “I have been up for 48 hours about to fall asleep standing.”. “What do they expect, I am new.”, I miss my family.”, “If I don’t get home soon I will go crazy.”, “How can I work in this terrible weather?”, “It’s to cold.”, “It’s to hot.”, “We are not making any money because Joe parted his hair on the wrong side of his head.”, Yada, Yada, and Yada.

Now if you really want to get on one of these shows you need to specialize your whining. If it’s “Deadliest Catch” or “Swords” you need to study the art of fishing in the ocean. “Swords” is a new reality show and I think all they did was use the old scripts from “Deadliest Catch” because they sound like they are using the same whines. “We are not catching any fish because the captain does not know what he is doing.”, “How can the captain expect us to work in this storm?”, This is storm is making the deck slippery and it’s getting too dangerous to work.”, “I am a greenhorn, what do they expect from me?”, “If everybody would work as a team we could get rich in just a few weeks.”, and Yada, Yada. On “Extreme Loggers”, “The “skidder” is broken and I can not get loaded.” The saw broke and we are at a standstill”, “That 10 ton tree almost hit me when it fell.” “The boss wants me to climb to the top of that 200 foot tree and cut the top off.”, and Yada, yada. On “Ice Road Truckers”, “If I go too fast I could end up in a ditch or run off the side of a cliff.”, “The heater is not working in this rig.”, “The road is a sheet of ice and my tires are losing there traction.”, “I have to be in Nogascatuwan by midnight tonight with this load.” “It’s snowing so hard I can barely see past the hood of my truck.”, and Yada, Yada.

It’s probably fairly easy whining about the job, but what these characters are really good at is whining about making tons of money in a short period of time and how dangerous their job is. I wonder if it ever dawned on them that the more dangerous the job the more money they make. I don’t think so because the whine about making thousands of dollars in just a few weeks.

So now go out and find a really dangerous job where you make tons of money is a short period of time, study the industry and get to specializing your whines so you can zero right in on the subject matter. Be sure to study the history of the industry and the disasters so you can have something to refer to if you get so good at whining you become a commentator. When the show slows down they always go back to something terrible that happened in a given industry history. For example on “Swords” they mention “The Perfect Storm” on every show and sometimes several times during each show. They always compare it to what is currently taking place and they always find a crew member or two who was “fishing” in the same decade as when the storm took place.

Now, go out there and get that great job and don’t forget where you got the tips on your new career. Be sure to mention the “Alboutnothing” when you’re on camera spewing out the greatest whines in the history of reality TV.

Great story on this contestant. She is hearing impaired and dances beautifully. She said, “She feels the music.”
Nigel said, “Beautiful movement in her dance.” Mary said, “Great inspiration and beautiful dancing.” Mary also related a story about someone she knew who had the same impairment, but gave up on her dancing and is no longer with us. Mary was really moved by Allison. Mia said, “Thank you for sharing.” I thought she was excellent. Allison was sent to choreography and at the end of the night the judges decision was “YES”.

6) William and Jacob. (Same sex dancers).

9) Kelsey.
All three judges said she was “OK” and just before Kelsey came out there was some joking about aliens. Nigel asked Kelsey if she had ever been abducted by aliens and she said, “Yes, once.” Nigel then left the judging area and went back stage. (I think she was joking). Mary and Mia said her dance was ok and sent her to choreography and at the end of the night the judges decision was “NO”, but all the judges told her to keep working on her dance because she was close to being accepted.

10) Johnathon L. (B-Boy)
Nigel said, “Tremendous and exciting in his style of dancing.” Mary said, “Great personality and very exciting.” Mia said, “She had heard about him and how well he dances. You are a powerhouse and then said he was “stupid”, or in other words, he “blew” her away.”
The judge’s decision was a “YES”.

Tonight’s show notes:
Once again I liked the way the show was presented tonight. The embarrassing routines were held to just a few and the contestants sent to choreography were saved to last few minutes and then only the contestants that were going to Vegas were quickly shown. I think this made the show 100% more interesting than last years audition shows.

I have nothing else to report tonight except don’t forget the “Dizzy Feet Foundation” for kids.

COMCAST Cares! Another Happy Customer.

I have been traveling around the US the past few months and about a month ago I landed in Cordova, TN. I started a new job and after about two weeks another new employee joined the company where I was employed. His name is Jeff (Not real name) and he had moved here from Florida. Jeff told me that he was a devoted DSL user, but because of where his apartment was located he could not get DSL and had to go with Comcast. So Jeff called Comcast and scheduled an installation. Jeff had just purchased a new HD TV and was looking forward to the installation. Well, not only did Comcast charge Jeff for the installation, but they added several charges for items not quoted Jeff when he scheduled the install. To top it off, when the installation was completed, his HD TV was not working. Because Comcast had left, Jeff had to call Comcast support to get someone to return and “fix” the problem. (They charged him for the new service call.) Comcast did not show up and Jeff had to call again. (They charged him again) and this time the service guy said they needed to add a device for his HD reception. (Another additional charge.) Finally everything was working but Jeff was not happy with Comcast at all.

After Jeff told be this story I told him about my experience (See blogs for April 4th and 27th 2009). I gave Jeff this email address so he could voice his complaints directly with Comcast - (We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com)

Jeff tool advantage of the email and just a few days later told me that Comcast does care and they were giving Jeff a credit to his account for the aggravation and misunderstanding. Jeff is now a happy camper.

Now I say to all of you Comcast Customers out their in cyber-space, that if you have something to report too Comcast, take advantage of the email address above and let them know. Being silent will only add to your stress and you probably could use some stress relief these days.

I have nothing else to add except -- Have a COMCASTIC Day, I know Jeff and I will!

So You Think You Can Dance Part One of the Final Performance

Wow, what a night. The show was broadcast from the Kodak Theater and the stage was awesome. The crowd seemed really “in to” what tonight’s Part one of the two part final.

The Top four all danced with each other and did a solo. It was non stop dancing from start to finish. I enjoyed every minute.

A promotional video of the auditions for season 6 was run and the dancing looked awesome. I am now looking forward to next season.

Couple Routines:

Jeanine and Evan danced a Hip-Hop Routine:
I thought it was a great routine and the dancing was very good. Adam said, “Great routine and congratulated both dancers for making the top 4.” Mary said, “Good partnership and Jeanine stood out and Evan held his own.” Nigel said, “Both did a good job.”

Brandon and Kayla danced a Broadway routine:
I thought Kayla really stood out in this routine. Adam said, “That was so good, it was heaven.” Then he said to Kayla, “Is there nothing you can’t do?” Mary said, “Terrific, Rock Stars, you guys always “bring it”.” Nigel said, “Superb, well done, and it was greatly entertaining.”

Kayla and Evan danced a Jive routine:
I thought they did a great job. Adam said, “I didn’t like it, but Evan did some great lifts.” Mary said, “Great routine, but Evan was not strong enough in his dancing. Kayla stole the spotlight.” Nigel said, “Loved it! Both Evan and Kayla “brought it” and it was very good.”

Jeanine and Brandon danced a Paso Doble’ routine:
I thought it was well danced, but I did not like the music. Adam said, “The flow of the dance was great. They both did the little things very well and carried it on throughout the entire routine.” Mary said, “It was just right and the intensity was awesome.” Nigel said, “Powerful dancing.”

Solo Routines:

Brandon:
I thought it was a powerful performance. Adam said, “Great routine, you’re a super athlete.” Mary said, “I have goose bumps and that Brandon was born to dance.” Nigel said, “Last weeks solo was great and this weeks solo wiped the others out.”

Jeanine:
I thought this was Jeanine’s best solo of the entire season. Adam said, “Are you kidding? It was awesome and you killed it.” Mary said, “You are peaking tonight and it was a good routine.” Nigel said, “Brave solo. You are in the final two in my book.”

Evan:
I really liked it. I do enjoy watching him dance. I don’t know what it is, but there is something special. Adam said, “Your dance style is great.” Mary said, “You are unique and you have a “new” energy that you bring to this show.” Nigel said, “You do bring something special to the show.” Nigel also said, “That he did not think Evan grew as much as he expected over this season.”

Kayla:

I thought it was very good. Adam said, “The solo did not show what she can really do, but looking at this entire season, he put Kayla in a group of dancers that he thought was the best ever,” Mary said, “You are gifted and I loved the solo. Nigel said, “She is and always has been fantastic.”

Special pair routines:

Kayla and Jeanine did a Mia Michael’s routine:
I thought this routine was one of the best routines of this season and that includes the dancing. Adam said, “Both were great and it was beautifully danced.” Mary said, “You guys laid your heart and soul out on the stage. It was great.” Nigel said, “I wanted the routine to go longer because the dancing was so strong.”

Evan and Brandon did a pop-jazz routine:
I really like the dancing of both contestants, but it seems the judges had a different opinion. Adam said, “Evan’s natural sweetness got in the way of his dancing because the routine was supposed to bring out the “meanness”.” Mary said, “Evan was too sweet for the routine.” Nigel said, “Evan’s work ethic is beyond approach, but his “choochie” face was not nasty enough. Brandon out danced him.”
My opinion about both of these guys is that Brandon is a powerful dancer, but Evan has his own way about him. Evan seems to “own” each dance. He adds a little something special to whatever routine he is dancing. I find Evan to be far more entertaining when he is dancing.

Final comments:

I haven’t picked anyone that I thought should win up to this point, but now here is my “two cents”. Looking at the entire season, and reading all my notes on the judge’s comments and my comments I have to pick Kayla as the one that should win this season. She has “brought it” on every performance. I could not find one negative comment about anyone of the routines she has performed this entire season. Granted Brandon is a powerful dancer, but not someone I would pay to see dance. Jeanine I agree is peaking tonight, but I think she has further to grow. Evan is a very close second to Kayla, I must say there is something special with Evan’s dancing, but looking at the entire season, Kayla is in my opinion the winner of this season. The one comment that seems to be repeated buy the judges is, “Is there nothing you can’t do Kayla?” That says it all.

I don’t know about you all out there in cyber-space, but nothing is going to stop me from watching tomorrow nights final show.

So You Think You Can Dance Week #5 Results

Cut from the top 12 tonight was Phillip and Caitlin. The judges were unanimous on both selections. The judges told both dancers that they were great dancers and they based their decision on last night and all the previous week performances.

As I say to all the departing contestants, “To Phillip and Caitlin I send my congratulations for making the Top 12 and even though you are leaving tonight, “Let nothing stand in your way as you continue your journey to complete your dream”.

This now completes the top 10 that will be going on the SYTYCD Tour starting in September. Congratulations to all the top 10 contestants for following your dream and taking the action to complete it. Nigel also announced that Phillip and Caitlin will also be joining the top 10 on the tour, which was a surprise because in pasted seasons only the top 10 went on tour as the main attractions. Other dancers went on tour only as “swing” dancers, not main attractions.

I must say that when Phillip was asked how this competition has affected him he said among other things, “I hope I have inspired others to follow their dreams. I want them to know that you don’t need money and fancy studios, all you need are creativity and passion to complete your dreams.” (Not his exact words, but I got the message.)

Other notes about tonight’s show:

Nigel said that when they attempted to put together a show that would be a tribute to Michael Jackson they could not get a release of the music from Sony so there will be no tribute.
My editorial response to this is -- Outrageous! Disgusting! I am appalled! If you are a fan of one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived and agree with me on this absurdity of not releasing the music to SYTYCD for a tribute, what I am going to do is post a blog tomorrow with the subject “SYTYCD Tribute to Michael Jackson Rejected”. In the body of the post will be the above description about the music not being release. All comments on this post will be approved and posted for all to see (Please keep it G Rated). So call your friends, use “Google”, “Bing”, Firefox”, etc. to get information on he we can get this decision reversed and post it as a comment or just comment, the on what you think. Your opinions are valued here.

I have Nothing except for all you out there to remember the name “SONY”!. Grrrrrrrr...

So You Think You Can Dance Week #5 Performance

Wow, another great night of dancing and all the couples danced two routines.
Overall, it looks like this is one great season.

Best of the Night:

Brandon and Janette’s 1st routine was the Argentine Tango. The audience and all the judges gave a standing ovation at the end of the routine. It was in Nigel’s words, “As close to perfection as he has even seen on the show.” Mary agreed and Tyson said, “Perfect execution and an unreal routine.” I also agree with everything said, “It was awesome.”
Their 2nd routine was Jazz. My take was “excellent and well delivered.” Nigel said, “Brilliant performance and very impressed.” Mary said, “Best “bam” fabulous and synchronized.” Tyson said, “It was a privilege to watch them and he was inspired by them…excellent.”

The other routines of the night (In the order danced):

Kupono and Kayla’s 1st routine was Contemporary. I thought this was the best contemporary routine I have seen in a long time. They danced it very well. Nigel said, “Absolutely superb.” Mary said, “Great performance.” Tyson said, “Felt the experience and great entertainment.”
Their 2nd routine was Broadway. I thought they did a good job and danced it well. Nigel said, “It needed more. There wasn’t any feeling.” Mary said, “Really good job.” Tyson said, “They danced it well.”

Ade and Melissa’s 1st routine was Disco. Once again I thought this was another great Disco performance. Brandon and Janette did one earlier this season and this one was right up there with that routine. Nigel said, “Really good job.” Mary said, “Great Job,” Tyson said, “Frigging great.”
Their 2nd routine was the Waltz. I thought it was beautifully danced. Nigel said, “It was beautifully danced.” Mary said, “Beautiful.” Tyson said, “Overall very well danced.

Jason and Caitlin’s 1st routine was the Fox Trot. Now I am not a big fan of the Fox Trot, but I thought they danced it very well. Nigel said, “Very good.” Mary said, “Tremendous. Excellent.” Tyson said, “They looked like stars. Great Job.”
Their 2nd routine was Jazz. I thought it was very good and well danced. Nigel said, “Very well danced, but need more chemistry.” Mary said, “Effortless performance.” Tyson said, “He thought they played it too safe but thought it was a job well done.”

Phillip and Jeanine’s 1st routine was a Russian Folk Dance. I thought the routine was a stinker, but the dancers did a good job with what they had. Nigel said, “He liked the dancing, not the routine.” Mary said, “Phillip was ok and Jeanine was very good.” Tyson said, “They danced it well.”
Their 2nd routine was The Jive (Ballroom). I thought it was very well done. Nigel said, “Terrific. Phillip was best for dancing out of his style and Jeanine was a top 10 dancer.” Mary said, “She loved it. Phillip surprised her and it was a good job.” Tyson said, “He loved it and it was fanfriggin terrific.”

Evan and Randi’s 1st routine was Hip-Hop. I liked it and thought it was good execution. Nigel said, “Very good routine and very good dancing.” Mary said, “Great job. Did not expect it.” Tyson said, “Even needed more but Randi did a good job.”
Their 2nd routine was the Samba. I thought it was a great dance and very sexy. Nigel said, “Not as hot as he would have liked.” Mary said, “It was a slow sizzle, fabulous, but not dynamic enough.” Tyson said, “It lacked strength.”

Also announced this week was that all the dancers would have new partners next week. Part of the “promo” to each routine this week was how each partner is going to miss the other after tonight. A comment made at the end of the show was that being split up as a couple is difficult for all. This also seemed to be the theme as each couple reflected how they were going to miss their partners after this week.

Nothing more to add tonight, except I think that this season is turning out to be the best overall season of SYTYCD.

So You Think You Can Dance Week #4 Results

Cut from the top 14 tonight was Vitolio and Karla. The judges were unanimous on both selections. They said Vitolio had a great stage presence, but did not deliver through his dance and that Karla was not growing as expected, even though she is a great dancer.

As I say to all the departing contestants, “To Vitolio and Karla I send my congratulations for making the Top 14 and even though you are leaving tonight, “Let nothing stand in your way as you continue your journey to complete your dream”.

A special comment about Jeanine’s solo:
The judges said it was brilliant and I agree 100%. On a scale of 1 to 10, I had it at a 12. The judges said, “It was the best solo of this season.”

A reminder of the awesome announcement made on yesterday’s show!

Nigel announced a new foundation named “The Dizzy Feet Foundation” is being formed to help under-privileged children. Many people from SYTYCD and many other top stars are involved in its creation. For more details on the foundations web-site: <Click Here>.

This is what’s it’s all about! Bringing a opportunity to children so they can follow their dreams to dance, create a way to enjoy the dance, and even better, allow them to follow the path to their true potential.

So You Think You Can Dance Week 4 Performance

Tonight was another awesome “SYTYCD performance” night and it included a great “special announcement”, which I will get to after the dance schedule summary.
Also note Mia Michaels was a judge tonight and her critique of the dancers is something to pay attention to. Another Mia note is that she has changed her mind about Brandon. A few weeks back she said that she didn’t see his potential and could not grasp the great things other people were saying about him. This week she said that, basically, Brandon has made a believer out of her. She told Brandon that “Dance teachers are normally hard on the students with the most potential and that it’s a way of pushing them to greater heights.” (This brought Brandon to tears and it was a special moment.)

Best of the Night (in order of performed):

Brandon and Janette danced the Cha-Cha. Once again out of their element and they pulled it off. This couple is quickly becoming one of the best couples on the show this year. This weeks Cha-Cha was one of the best Cha-Cha routines ever danced of all the seasons. Last week they danced one of the best Hip-Hop routines this year and a few weeks ago they danced the best ever Disco routines.
Nigel said, “Best ever Cha-Cha routines”. Mary said, “Awesome.” Mia said, “Brilliant!”

Kupono and Kayla danced Contemporary. This couple only has been together for two weeks. Tonight was a Wow!”. Nigel said, “Fabulous”, Mary said, “Great chemistry”, and Mia said, “Great routine and amazing performance.”

Ade and Melissa danced Classical Ballet. This was the first time that a Classical Ballet routine was danced on SYTYCD. The these was Romeo and Juliet and they danced it beautifully. Nigel said, “Great!”, Mary said, “Loved it and great chemistry.”, and Mia said “Brilliant.” Mia also said, “I am happy to see Classical Ballet being introduced on this show.”

The other routines of the night:

Evan and Randi danced Broadway. I thought it was very well danced, but the judges gave it mixed reviews. Nigel said, “Even though he was some what disappointed in Evan’s performance, he still had the couple in the top 10.”, Mary said, “She enjoyed it.”, and Mia said, “They didn’t take the routine to a higher level.”

Jason and Caitlin danced the Jazz. It was a “strange” routine but I thought they danced it well. Nigel said, “Very well danced and then went on to say that Caitlin’s costume made her look like a dancing condom!”, Mary said, “So-so routine”, and Mia said, “Danced very well.”

Vitolio and Jeannine (New couple this week) danced “The dreaded Quick-Step.” I thought they danced it very good and it looked to me to be one of the best Quick-Step routines ever danced on SYTYCD. Nigel said, “Very good overall.”, Mary said, “they brought-it.”, and Mia said, “Good job, great routine, and wonderful.”

Phillip and Jeanine danced Hip-Hop. Since this is Phillip’s specialty he should have “nailed it” and he did. Now Janine, I thought was even better because she was out of her element and did a great job. She “hammered it.” Nigel said, “Tremendous”, Mary said, “Jeanine brought it and fabulous routine.”, Mia said, “She liked it.” This was probably a great pick for Phillip and will probably keep him another week, but wait till he gets another non-hip-hop and hopefully a Tango… (Make a believer out of me Phillip. I have you on the bottom of the “guy” list.)

The Great Announcement made tonight by Nigel!

Nigel announced tonight that a new foundation named “The Dizzy Feet Foundation” is being formed to help under-privileged children.

There is nothing I can say to everyone at SYTYCD about this new foundation except “God bless everyone involved!”

So You Think You Can Dance Week #3 Results

Cut from the top 16 tonight was Jonathon and Asuka. The judges were unanimous on Asuka, but spilt on Jonathon. I agree on Jonathon, I thought he did not “dance for his life”, and I had the other two guys even up. As far as the girls, I had to leave that up to the judges. The reason they gave for “cutting” Asuka is they did not feel she was growing as a dancer on the show.

As I say to all the departing contestants, “To Jonathon and Asuka I send my congratulations for making the Top 16 and even though you are leaving tonight, “Let nothing stand in your way as you continue your journey to complete your dream”.

Final Note:
As everyone probably knows by now that Michael Jackson passed away at the young age of fifty today. I have been a fan of his for forty plus years and as far as music goes Nigel said it best tonight, “He changed the world of music forever. Not just here in the U.S., the world.”

I agree 1,000%. When “Thriller” came out and I saw it, I knew this was the future and it did change everything about music. Not only song, but dance, video, production, and well you can go on and on. Nigel also said, “I hear contestants on this show and others stating that they were inspired by Michael Jackson to follow their dreams.” That in itself is awesome and his life should be a celebration. We will miss the likes of Michael Jackson yet celebrate his contribution to the world of music forever.

So You Think You Can Dance Week 3 Performance

This SYTYCD competition is getting really good. The quality of the dancing is rising each week and the dancers are being forced to grow and improved.

Best of the Night:

Evan and Randi danced a Mia Michael’s contemporary routine and “nailed it!” This was the most memorable routine of the night in my opinion. One thing about a Mia Michael’s routine is the dances must “nail it” or it’s straight to the bottom three. Last week Evan and Randi brought the “fun” and this week they brought the “Butt”.

Next Best of the Night:

Ade and Melissa danced Rumba. These two are looking like one of the best couples this year. Both dancers were totally out of their element and they did a great job. It was sexy, great timing, and they had chemistry.

Brandon and Janette danced Hip-Hop. Another couple out of their element and they pulled it off. One of the best hip-hop routines this year and this one surprised me because usually the hip-hop routines by dancers out of their “comfort zone” are “so-so”. Not this time, they both “brought it”.

Vitolio and Asuka danced Jazz. They had great chemistry and these two are improving every week. Last week they had a “special” routine and this one may have been a little less that “special”, but it was very good.

Jason and Caitlin danced the Paso Doble. This one really surprised me. It was a powerful routine and I actually liked it. The only thing lacking was they need a little more chemistry.

Worst routines of night:

Jonathon and Karla danced Hip-Hop. It was not very good at all. I think bottom 3 for these two tomorrow for sure.

Phillip and Jeanine danced Broadway. Phillip was not very good, but Jeanine “nailed it”. Phillip did manage to jump the couch but that was his highlight. When you dance Broadway you need to stay in “character” though out the entire dance and even though he started well, he did not carry it through. He did poorly last week and managed to stay another week, but like I said last week, popularity only goes so far on this show.

The third “worst” is a tough call this week. Kupono and Kayla are a new couple this week and I was wondering how they were going to do. They danced a Viennese Waltz this week and even though this is not a “pizzazz” type of routine where everyone would stand up and cheer, they danced it very well.

Nothing more to day except I am looking forward to tomorrow nights show.

SYTYCD Joshua Allen – A Winner’s Journey

Last years So You Think You Can Dance’s winner was Joshua Allen. I remember seeing him for the first audition and thinking, “This guy is something special.” “I will be sure to watch his progress.”

SYTYCD has created a video about the season four winner and I must say it is inspirational. The highlights are “The Quest, the chance, the win, and the future.” Joshua uses words like dream, commit, succeed, be yourself, and be true to yourself in the video. Even though this video is about Joshua’s journey, I think it can be applied to every ones journey in general.

Here is the link <Click here> and I hope you all enjoy the “message” as much as I did.

Nothing is better than watching someone continue their journey when they are following their dream.
