This morning I saw that I had some high priority updates from the Microsoft. I went to look, because I never set the “Automatic Update” feature to update and install without me checking what the kind of updates. I saw two, one was a Service Pack update and the other was to update to Explorer 8. I went ahead and did the Service Pack update and thought long and hard about the Explorer 8 update. I should have not done it, but I did and after it was done I started getting errors like I never have seen before.I am using XP and will not go to Vista until it’s at least been out for more than three years because of horror stories I have heard from folks who jump in to these new operating systems too quickly. Anyway, after today’s fiasco I called one of the team members from “alboutnothing.com” and he said just go to the Control Panel and click the “Add and Remove” Icon. Then scroll down to Explorer 8 and remove it, which I did and when it was done I re-booted and found I was back to Explorer 7. (I actually danced around my chair to celebrate) I thanked my friend a hundred times and wished him all the good karma in the world.
The only thing not working after I was done was my Google Tool Bar would not “Book mark” any pages. After messing around with it I got it working also even though the messages I was getting from Google were not what the problem was and because Google does not have an email address for support (See blog from April 29th), I had to figure it how to fix the problem myself and I did.
My friend did mention that he was using Google “Chrome” browser and he really liked it. I am now pondering installing it, but I tried it once and did not like it. I will think about it for at least a week and then decide. I am keeping my mind open and will leave nothing to chance and besides, I can always call my friend if I have another problem or email him because he does have an email address.
