I was watching the news today and the one big story seemed to be the people gathering all over the US having Teat Parties to protest the ridiculous tax laws we have. I must agree with them, the tax laws are so complicated you can no longer do your taxes yourself. True, there are computer programs that assist you tax preparation, but come on, there has got to be a better way. Even the President said today that he was going to look in to removing some of the loop-holes.
I remember a few years ago someone gave a solution to this problem and it was for the Federal Government to replace the tax laws with a flat Federal Sales Tax of 10%. Now this seems like a good solution. We could then get rid of the I.R.S. and clean out all the tax laws from the books. No forms to fill out and for people making big “bucks”, they won’t have to pay accounts to “fudge” their tax returns.
My guess is that this solution is too simple for congress to handle or they don’t want to mess with the lobbyists that promote the tax laws.
On the down side the tax lawyers that would go out of business, and oh my, H. & R. Block would have to close their doors. The upside is 300 million plus US citizens would no longer dread April 15th and go about their lives without worrying about their taxes and possible audits.
I just made a cup of herb tea and I can think of nothing better than the upside.
